On June 23, 15 youth leaders from across the City of Chicago testified at the Board of Education meeting. Here's what Edwin, a youth leader from APNC, had to say about it...
This Wednesday morning was no ordinary morning for me. I woke up early in the morning to give my full support to VOYCE. VOYCE met with the Board of Chicago Public Schools. We met with the Board so they can give us their full support to fund VOYCE. During the meeting some youth of VOYCE spoke on personal experiences. Those testimonies given by Moneer Damra, Kasi Bowman, Eric Gaston, Theodore Carter and Sandra Rector were awesome I give them big props (round of applause). The part that showed, "we are united as one" was when the youth and our organizers slowly started moving behind Sandra Rector while she was giving her testimony, by the time she was done all the youth and organizers were standing right behind her. If I can re-live this moment I would a thousand times. Also thank you to the youth of Organization of the Northeast for that wonderful pledge. The pledge is as follows:
As VOYCE youth we pledge to continuously
fight for CPS high schools to have equal
education and opportunities to transform
and build new student leaders and work
to increase the CPS graduation rate
and lower the drop-out rate.
